Unified thread for any texture/asset work I do.

First up to bat is a WIP shot of a couple of redesigned county flags (Anvil and Sutch). I also have designs for Kvatch and Skingrad ready to go which I'll show more of later tonight

Yes, it looks great. I wanted to write that earlier, but I feel odd for just writing praise without anything further.

To be very nitpicky, I think you could blurry the straight white line on the sutch banner a little bit to make them visually submerge with the canvas a bit. But other than that really nothing to complain about from my side.

Still tweaking and finalizing the textures themselves, but here are the emblems at least for the major Colovian cities:

I'm thinking of redoing the Stirk flag as well so that they're all of the same texture style (plus I'll need to draw the emblem at some point for the shield) and ditching the mini-diamonds across the board.

Cool.
Colovian Legion will have its banner?

By the way, TR came up with a new symbol of the imperial fleet. But on Anvil, ships use normal imperial symbol. You change it?

These all look very nice. We might have to think about heraldry for the other lesser baronies, like Sarchal and Delodiil. And maybe some emblem for the Kali Mes, to mirror the official Sutch banner.

this looks fantastic. Please don't forget to upload them, when you're done. It would be a big loss not to see used in our exterior work one day. :D

Finished flags (redid Skingrad from scratch):

As a bonus, wax seals to match:

Haha no worries worsas, I'm going to try to get the skinny banners done today so I can upload it all together, but if those don't get done I'll upload what I have at least :)

I admire your patience in drawing these motifs. Not many modellers are prepared to put that much effort a texture. I have only hand-drawn very rough patterns for my clothing pieces, otherwise relying on photo sources for the complexer parts.

Those seals are a very good idea - they'd give a whole new dimension to official messages.

Also redid Stirk to match with the others:

Starting on the Nibenese male heads again, just done one so far as a test.

I'll be using the descriptions found in this thread for tattoo/face paint ideas.

EDIT: Went ahead and made up a second one as well:

The second head should maybe get a slightler darker base skin color, otherwise it looks very much like a nord head to me. I don't like to say it, but the saturation of the paintings (red tongue, green scales) seem a bit high for this game. I think we can exceed vanilla saturation, but we should do it within reason.

Have to be honest - I'm really not convinced of this style. As worsas said, the colors seem way too bright and varied (keeping in mind the kind of tools and pigments available in a society that does not have artificial coloring) and the artwork seems too modern and naturalistic, almost graffiti-like. Keep in mind, the only "official" depiction of Nibenese tattoos we have is this one, from the PGE 1:
Image
The Nibenese seem to favor more abstract designs, whose meaning is not immediately clear (if I had to guess, I'd say the tattoo in that picture refers to the Nibenay's rivers in some way).

Looking back on that previous discussion, I think my focus on the animal cults was a little misguiding. Totem cult membership will likely be indicated with helmets and masks, making dedicated tattoos somewhat superfluous (except in special cases, probably). We should maybe consider focusing on more generic symbols, like the river, the red diamond, the Divines, etc.

I think Infragris right. You can make similar tattoos that have a nords. But green and other patterns.

Attempt #2 at the Harn-Etar tattoo:

[hsimg=]http://i.imgur.com/8NIumNL.png[/hsimg]

I definitely hear you, Infragris, and I do intend to have more abstract and general patterns as well- but I don't think we can, or should, limit ourselves by that one concept. After all, the PGE does say that they relish in garish costumes, which these facepaints would qualify for I think :P

I'm not planning on representing every animal cult, anyhow. Probably just the Harn-Etar, Curc-Etar and Syff-Etar (I don't like the newt either haha).

EDIT: Attempt #1 at the Curc-Etar:

Attempt #1 at the middle class tattoos and another head- tattoos are saved on separate layers so they can be applied to any face at a later date.

I like those lines very much, expecially the little dots and diamond appendages. It looks a bit modernish with the color and the blurred outline, but that isn't a bad thing per se. I'd say we don't need to make everything look 'old school' to accomodate to vanilla mw. If you intend to make further variants, perhaps make some with broader lines that again contain smaller details in themselves (mini diamonds or what have you). Also nice work on the animal tatooes.

Thanks Worsas :D

Attempt #1 at the lower class tattoos, loosely modeled off of the Imperial warpaints from Skyrim:

[hsimg=]http://i.imgur.com/36UfxqF.png[/hsimg]

"Designs for these tattoos should include natural flowing curves and crude, sometimes primitive imagery... Working-class tattoos should have a yellow base color."

What are peoples' thoughts for upper-class tattoos/face paint? Red or purple pigment, but what style should it go after?

Re: Jiub's Projects

by Infragris
Upper-class tattoos should perhaps be more geometric, and feature heavy use of the diamond pattern: criss-crossed, chessboard patterns on the cheeks, maybe a large red diamond over the mouth and chin (favored by politicians and public speakers). This is also a place where Tsaesci imagery should be apparent: a kind of eastern minimalist aesthetic, perhaps, or snake-like coils crossing through diamond lattices. Not sure what this all would look like.

I like the working-class tattoos a lot, as well as the blue-lined ones above. Maybe we can include some asymmetrical variants? It would feel more natural and primitive (lower-class artists wouldn't be able to accurately copy the design on both sides, like). In close-up, they still look a bit too much like facepaint, though. Perhaps if the yellow was a little bit darker, and the blurred outline more subdued.

OK, I can definitely give that a try.

In the meantime, finished designs for the Curc-Etar and Harn-Etar masks and attempt #1 at the Syff-Etar:

Couple things:

First, once again I appear to have lost some of my work, in this case the chapel windows which it looks like I never uploaded here. The good news is, I've learned a lot since the last time I attempted these and I feel like this is my best effort yet:

[hsimg=]http://i.imgur.com/puf6xj7.png[/hsimg]

And update on the Nibenese heads:

the female tiger one... :D And the one with eyeliner and diamons is plain cool. It would be interesting to see how these look like ingame when the head gets stretched a bit with clothing and hearing the imperial voice speaking.

Despite your losses, it's nice to see the progress here. Some of our heads in data are still very undefined. If you have given any of those your treatment, it would be ideal to have the plain version aswell later.

Small update with the generic/figureless window for the Chapel of Dibella:
