Beorinhal Character Ideas

Post by Yeti »

Recently, I felt inspired to do a little character brainstorming for Beorinhal. Here is what I came up with.

Horir the Grey - Male Nord - Jarl Horir the Grey of Beorinhal, Lord of the Granite Hall and Warden of the Sundered Hills. Roerich: "Horir is a senile, warlike, stubborn old veteran. Surprisingly hotblooded for his age. Should command respect but also a bit of a clouded mind. Lots of vengeance talk."

Rornja Gray-Raven - Female Nord – Tired and weary, Rornja is the daughter of Jarl Horir. Her two brothers died many years ago fighting in Horir’s campaigns. More than anything, Rornirja wishes for quiet seclusion after a hard life. Five years ago, her husband was murdered by a disgruntled huscarl, Hirrfud the Bane.

Turrid - Female Nord – Rornja’s martial daughter Turrid is the captain of Beorinhal’s guards and a commander of her grandfather’s warriors. Loyal and vengeful, she will stop at nothing to behead Hirrfud the Bane.

Jorrina - Female Nord – The younger granddaughter of Jarl Horir has no interest in warfare and is rather bored with life in an old fortress.

Gallo Paloccius - Male Imperial – Gallo is a rakish Colovian bard who won Jarl Horir's favor with ballads praising the old Nord’s many wars and battles. Secret lover of Jorrina.

Murak gra-Shrakgob – Female Orc – A gruff old Orc, Murak is the keeper of Jarl Horir’s dungeon.

Thane Yurrod Stone-Shaper – Male Nord - Leader of the Stone-Fist Clan, Yurrod and his clan are skilled stone masons who traditionally maintain Beorinhal’s ancient fortifications. In recent years, he has begun to quietly doubt Jarl Horir’s judgment.

Vrsjari - Female Nord - Steward of the Beorinhal Guild of Fighters. Tough and independent, she is happy living on the harsh frontier of the Sundered Hills. Close friend of the Jarl’s granddaughter, Turrid.

Procanius Furcian - Male Imperial – Procanius has become reasonably wealthy running the town Tradehouse. In the past, he has traded with the local Reachmen and prefers peaceful relations. His family in Hal Norvold owns a profitable mining operation.

Juirolch - Male Reachman – Juirolch is a friendly Reachman peddler of herbs and potions. The Jarl's guards want to drive him out of town, but he has found refuge in the Tradehouse, where Procanius lets him sell his wares.

Rnir - Male Nord - An outfitter and trapper from Skyrim's frozen tundra. He sells a wide variety of arrows, bolts, potions, and other useful supplies. His rustic shop has many furs and pelts hanging from the walls.

Tunur-Jun - Male Nord - A traditional Nord shaman and healer. He talks in riddles and holds strange rituals late into the night. He may be trying to ward off the scheming Herma-Mora.

Fryir the Feral - Female Nord – Half-crazed and clad like a berserker, Fryir is a barbarian warrior who has journeyed to Beorinhal to fight under Jarl Horir. Many are worried about her spilling blood within the town’s walls.

Hirrfud the Bane – Rude and boastful, Hirrfud fled Beorinhal after feuding with and murdering Rornja’s husband (who wanted to throw him out of the Granite Hall after years of loafing around as a useless huscarl). Living now as an outlaw, he is using one of the nearby ruins or barrows as a hideout.

This looks great. The only thing that jumps out to me is "Gray" vs. "Grey" in the case of "Horir the Grey" and "Rornja Gray-Raven." Even though Morrowind uses American English the majority of the time, "Gray" doesn't ever appear in the name of an NPC, weapon, etc, unlike "Grey" ("Grey-Throat", "Grey Shaft of Holding"). Maybe change "Rornja Gray-Raven" to "Rornja Grey-Raven" to be consistent?

If I may suggest, I think swapping 1-2 of female NPCs in the Fighters Guild for males would be good, as currently there is only 2 men and 5 women. Unless it is story driven, like with Tel Mora.
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,
because fear has to do with punishment.
The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18
